Rep. Watson Re-Enlists in Marine Corps Reserves
Jacksonville, IL – State
Representative Jim Watson today announced that he has re-enlisted in the United
States Marine Corps Reserves.
“Last month, I made the
decision to re-enlist in the Marine Corps Reserves,” Watson said. “My
constituents can be assured that I will continue to serve them and that their
views will be represented in Springfield.”
Representative Watson
re-enlisted in May as an E-6 Staff Sgt., USMC Reserves, attached to the Civil
Affairs Group (CAG) at Camp Pendleton, California. Watson is attending drill
one weekend a month.
Watson spoke of the reason for
his decision to re-enlist.
“We are at an important point
in our nation’s history,” Watson stated. “The war on terrorism is being fought
on many fronts. My old unit is currently serving its third tour-of-duty. There
is a general sense of duty that does not end when you take the uniform off. For
some time now, I have felt the call to again serve my country.”
Representative Watson was a
member of the United States Marine Corps and Marine Corps Reserves from
1985-1991. He served in Iraq during Operation Desert Storm from 1990-1991.
“My experiences in the first
Gulf War and as a legislator give me a unique skill set which can help the CAG,”
Watson said. “Right now, the same individuals are being asked to carry the
water over and over again. I believe I can make a difference and help support
our troops that have already given so much.”
