Rep. Watson appointed to Veterans Council
Jacksonville, IL…. Heading into the Memorial Day
weekend when Americans traditionally honor those who have paid the ultimate
price for our freedom, Illinois House Republican Leader Tom Cross (R-Oswego) has
announced the appointment of 97th District State Representative Jim
Watson (R-Jacksonville) to the Illinois Veterans Advisory Council, a board
established to study issues and concerns of significance to Illinois veterans.
“All through our history, the men and women who have worn
the uniform of the United States have placed the safety and security of our
Nation before their own” said Watson. “Protecting the ideals of our Nation has
required the service and sacrifice of those from every generation. All who enjoy
the blessings of liberty live in their debt. It is an honor to be named by
Leader Cross to help Illinois’ veterans tackle the vast array of problems they
now face today in civilian life. ”
The Veterans Advisory Council was established to advise the
Department of Veterans Affairs with respect to the fulfillment of its statutory
duties. The council reviews and studies the issues and concerns that are most
significant to Illinois veterans and advise the Department on them. They then
report to the Governor and General Assembly annually describing the issues
addressed and the actions taken as well as any recommendations for future
action.
“America will be forever grateful for the service and
sacrifice of our veterans and I look forward with pride to serving them via this
appointment” Watson said.
Representative Watson’s appointment takes effect on July 1,
2006.
